JAHANGIR GHASSEMI, PRESIDENT

Jahangir Ghassemi is an M.A. candidate in International Affairs at American University School of International Service focusing on international security and corruption. Jahangir serves as the SIS Graduate Student Council President and believes in enhancing the student experience through programs that bring the SIS community together and increase opportunities for professional growth. Additionally, he works as a research assistant for SIS and a defense policy intern at the British Embassy.
Prior to joining American University, Jahangir taught English in Korea. After moving to the United States from Iran, Jahangir graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a dual B.A. in Economics and Middle Eastern Studies with minors in Spanish and Arabic. He was a McNair Scholar and a recipient of the Critical Language Scholarship and the Gilman Scholarship, which gave him the opportunity to travel to Morocco and Turkey as an undergraduate student.
