Program: Master of Public Policy

Melissa Troy is a second year Master’s student of Public Policy and Administration. She holds a Bachelor’s of Social Work from Saint Leo University. She is a born and raised Floridian with a lot of travel under her belt. She worked in human services in the private hospital setting for 6 years.

She is a former union organizer for SEIU1199, conducting contract negotiations for 19 hospitals in Florida and serving as a speaker/advocate in five other states for national negotiations (Midwest).

Since she completed her BSW, she has worked as a professional social worker for DCF ( Certified Child Welfare Case Manager state dependency), Saint Vincent de Paul (rapid rehousing for homeless vets, families, and adult civilians) and Dawn Center (domestic violence and sexual assault survivors advocate).

She also assisted in creating a nonprofit substance abuse peer support and transition center (Rplaces Transition Centre) in Brantford Ontario. In that position, she did a lot of grant writing, proposals, and began an evaluation for program accreditation. She now works at Bic Graphic Inc. in human resources, writing time and attendance policies.

At AU, she is the online representative for student government. She aspires to be a researcher and policy analyst for international social welfare policy, focusing on economic impacts of women in developing countries and community development. She is an applicant for the SPA Phd Public Policy and Administration program and wishes to continue her professional development at this amazing university.
